Pitlochry Through to RHS Bloom Finals 2007

'Bloomin' Special' - that's Pitlochry, for winning through to the 2007 finals of the Britain in Bloom competition. Not only is it one of just 70 finalist but, in its 'small towns' category, it is the only Scottish contender among the five who have won through.

This year's competition theme is 'Bloomin' Wild' and for it the entrants must demonstrate effective designing and planting for wildlife.

For Pitlochry to bring home the silverware its residents of all ages will have to contribute to designing and planting public and private spaces that will encourage insects, amphibians, birds and mammals.

The Royal Horticultural Society wants children everywhere to help champion wildlife gardening in their communities. It has produced a Creature Calendar that lists just what to look out for through the seasons.

Involvement
According to the chairman of the Britain in Bloom judges, Jim Buttress, community involvement will be key to the awards. "Britain in Bloom is more than just flowers and bedding displays," he said.

"Community involvement is one of the central themes of the campaign - engaging children and young people is vital for success. With 'Bloomin' Wild' we want to involve more people in the campaign and show another way in which Britain in Bloom contributes to a healthy environment," he concluded.
