June Open Season in Bankfoot

On 17 June, there will be an opportunity to enjoy “Crafts, Plants and Gardens” in Bankfoot. Plants with Purpose Nursery and Artisan Stained Glass will be holding an Open Day where you can browse one-of-a-kind craft products as well as a nursery full of purposeful plants and herbs, along with herbal products, teas and baking.

Artisan Stained Glass will have small, traditionally-leaded hand-painted and fired glass panels for sale in their workshop in Main Street, and can also advise and estimate on bigger domestic or architectural projects. Also available here will be original handmade pottery by Bankfoot potter Joy Kynaston.

Round the corner in Smiths Brae, new residents Ruth and Geoff of Katya Embroidery will be displaying their custom-embroidered garments and products, including luxury gifts embroidered with Celtic designs and clan crests. They may still be unpacking, but will be welcoming visitors nonetheless!

Further up the brae, Plants with Purpose Nursery invites you to browse their unique collection of useful and unusual plants, find out about wildlife-friendly (and rather wild) organic gardening, meet the hens, geese and chicks, and be refreshed with herbal teas and baking.

For a more serene and weed-free garden experience, cross the road to Craigard, whose beautiful gardens include shrubberies, herbaceous borders, an impressive rock terrace and a traditional kitchen garden, and have been established for over 40 years. Craigard has been known to supply Plants with Purpose with cuttings and divisions!

Along with these attractions, Bankfoot has pubs, a café and a busy garden centre, and there are splendid walks from the village.

West Stormont Historical Society is holding a guided walk in the village from 2-4pm on the day, so there really is something for everyone. Leaflets can be picked up in local outlets or from Plants with Purpose 01738 787278, 0787 1451579.
